SRIBS Projects Win Global Sustainable City and Habitat Awards
Recently, the 19th Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) and the 2024 Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA) were held successfully at the United Nations Headquarters. Nearly 400 representatives from over 40 countries, including over 20 Permanent Ambassadors to the UN, attended the event.
Two projects serviced by the SRIBS were honored with the "Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award." Out of more than 450 projects globally selected for competition, 13 projects ultimately received awards. The West Bund Media Port and West Bund Digital Valley in Xuhui District won the award for "Global Green Smart Community Model," the only project globally—and from China—to receive this recognition. The award was personally presented by Rudra Chaudhuri, Environmental Department Coordinator of the UN Center for Regional Development. Additionally, the Yuanshang Lake Central Activity Zone in Jiading was recognized as a finalist in the "Global Urban Habitat Planning and Design Award" category, one of six finalists worldwide. The award was presented by Dr. Jie Xue, Director of the Institute of Urban Morphology and Complex Systems in Paris, Senior Adviser to the UN and World Bank, and Chief Expert of the International Green Model City Standard 3.0.
The "Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award" was established by the Global Forum on Human Settlements in 2005 and is an international award presented annually. Endorsed by the UN Environment Programme and other UN and international organizations, the award is one of the top global honors in sustainable development. In 2024, SCAHSA underwent a comprehensive transformation, honoring projects that demonstrate outstanding innovation and leadership in sustainable urban and habitat development while promoting advanced strategies, technologies, methods, and successful practices.
